With excitement, we woke up to our first full day of our new life. Sandy has a longstanding routine of spending time at Starbucks on Friday mornings. It was Friday, so we went to Starbucks for a chai tea latte and a hot chocolate. It was shaping up to be another drizzly day with temperatures around 50. We decided today was the day to spend at the Louvre so it was off to get in line. Lesson learned – get your tickets in advance (sometimes). We stood in line for about 30 minutes and hadn’t made much progress. Sandy checked to see if there was a time estimate and she was told it’s hard to tell – depends on how many have pre-purchased their tickets so it could be another couple of hours or it could be shorter. Given our flexibility, we were out of there.

We walked toward the Eiffel Tower, but it was clear with the weather that this wasn’t going to be the best day. Fog was accompanying the drizzle and the views just weren’t going to be worth the trip to the top, which was our goal. As we walked, the rain also picked up so we ducked into Le Frigate for lunch. This is a café on the Seine not too far from the Louvre. We shared an omelette, onion soup (I guess we drop the word French when in France), and a nutella and banana crepe. Nice stop.
The weather was the kind of weather you’d say “back at home, this is a good day for a movie.” Given that Paris is our new home (this week anyway), it was a good day for a movie. We walked over to a very large cineplex (I think they had close to 40 movies showing in more than 20 theaters) and it wasn’t easy, but we finally determined which movies were being shown in English. Based on the timing, we chose Au fil des saisons. Yes, it had a French title but the dialog was all in English. It was a perfect Saturday afternoon/evening at the movies.

After the movie, we went back to our neighborhood and had dinner at the Bercy Café. It was fine – nothing special really. Burgers and salad for dinner along with a Kronenbourg beer. Looking forward to tomorrow because we actually pre-purchased our tickets to the Louvre and should get to spend quite a bit of time taking it in.

So excited to be able to eat popcorn!!! 🍿
This blog is going to be fun! Just a starter comment: Every time I make popcorn at home, I think of Sandy. And, I can’t go to a movie without having popcorn and a Coke. I probably love it almost as much as my fun, sweet, sometimes crazy daughter-in-law.
